MOAS 2017
The class known as Model Organization of American States, or MOAS for short, is offered by SUNY Plattsburgh for college credit. While I took the class in both my junior and senior years, the Junior year is the one that stands out more for me.
In the class, students must create resolutions to social issues present within the hemisphere, acting as part of a delegation from a country (Our countries in 2017 were Brazil and Jamaica). I acted on the second committee of Brazil and, along with Andrew Mayne, argued for the creation of a program informing people about online banking risks.
To show Creativity, Andrew and myself had to brainstorm original and effective solutions for the issue of cyber security in the western hemisphere.
To show Collaboration, Andrew and I had to work together constantly. More often than not, one could find us working together in study halls to create effective solutions to problems.
To show Critical Thinking, we had to consider the issue at hand (the issue being cybersecurity) from all angles, and we had to do serious research into illegal hacks on banks, information centers, and more to get a complete understanding of the issue.
To show Communication, we had to present our resolution in front of about twelve other delegations from other schools, and answer questions during the question and answer period (previously mentioned in the Communication tab). Also, we had to present our resolution to our fellow classmates for the purpose of criticism, resulting in an airtight resolution that had 100% approval rate at the real conference.
